PS - Office for Mac will in no way slow down your machine. Officially, Apple only revealed that the original MacBook Air has a 1.6 GHz or 1.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor (P7500 or P7700) and was 'custom-built to fit within the compact dimensions of the MacBook Air.' Apple also provided the following image to compare the size of the standard Intel Core 2 Duo processor to the one in the MacBook Air. It did struggle in one surprising area, but I’ll come back to that in a bit. All are impressive, but the improvement to the MacBook Air impresses most.

To do so seamlessly you need MS Office for Mac, I'm afraid. Throw in the usual word processing and a couple of light games, and the MacBook Air performed admirably. The MacBook Air launches alongside a new 13-inch MacBook Pro and Mac mini, also running on the M1 system-on-a-chip (SoC). From your OSX side you can "drag" your Windows Word docs right into OSX and open them with any of the above mentioned word processors. It is a very basic WP application, but you did say 'of any sort' so theres your answer.

One more thing - BootCamp in OSX allows you to install any copy of Windows that you own (and therefore MS Office). Actually the MacBook Air does come with a word processing program. MS Office for a Mac works well but I found it disappointing that the bells and whistles don't LOOK like MS Office. To do this perfectly you will have to purchase MicroSoft Office for OSX (expensive unless your workplace offers you an employer version, then it is cheap like dirt). TextEdit and Bean will open MS Word files but not perfectly. I wanted a word processor for Mac that was fast, lightweight and beautiful to look at. Another free & excellent OSX WP is "Bean". Byword (£6.99/9.99) Byword is the app that I use to write almost all of my articles at TNW. Downloading apps requires an Apple ID.In addition to everything said here - OSX TextEdit has plain text (can be configured to act much like Notepad) and rich text.
